GREEN CHEMISTRY – A NOVEL APPROACH TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

Abstract: A study on the emergence and twelve principles of Green chemistry has been thoroughly discussed. Syntheses of polymers and nanoparticles with the aid of greener method have been elucidated. Phase transfer catalysis is found to play Key role in the synthesis of various multistep processes to one pot cascade reaction. Ionic liquids have emerged out as alternative green solvent in synthetic chemistry replacing traditional organic ones due to environmental and health concerns. Non ionic surfactants notably due to … Show more

“…Targeted use of solvents and catalysts is a fundamental solution to pursue environmental goals. 1,2 Green environment solvents must meet various criteria such as availability, non-toxicity, recyclability, thermal stability, renewable ability, non-flammability, low vapor pressure, economy, and biodegradability. 3,4 DESs have been developed in line with the goals of green chemistry as a suitable alternative to ionic liquids (ILs) and have found many applications in various research fields.…”

“…One of the most essential components of environmentally friendly chemistry is catalysis, which supports several green chemistry objectives including energy efficiency, less consumption of energy, improved yields, and achieving high selectivity with little waste utilizing biocatalysts. For its vital function, catalysis is known as the "foundation pillar of green chemistry" [14]. 10.…”

“…Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is a well-known nontoxic reagent and an environmentally benign substitute for methyl halides and dimethyl sulfate. Moreover, the reaction, using DMC as the methylation reagent, does not produce inorganic salts, and the leaving group methyl carbonate decomposes to produce only methanol and CO 2 as byproducts . With the increasingly serious environmental problems, the concepts of green chemistry, sustainable development, and environmental protection have been paid more and more attention . DMC, as a “green” methylating reagent, incorporates several of these fundamental aspects of green chemistry, such as avoiding the use of toxic and dangerous chemicals, being more atom-efficient, and so on.…”

“… 18 With the increasingly serious environmental problems, the concepts of green chemistry, sustainable development, and environmental protection have been paid more and more attention. 21 DMC, as a “green” methylating reagent, incorporates several of these fundamental aspects of green chemistry, such as avoiding the use of toxic and dangerous chemicals, being more atom-efficient, and so on. Herein, to develop safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly surfactants, a new series of quaternary ammonium surfactants containing amide bonds are synthesized using DMC as the methylating reagent.…”
