Green Deal and Carbon Neutrality Assessment of Czechia

Abstract: The European Green Deal declares climate neutrality as a goal for the year 2050. It establishes an EU binding target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030 compared to 1990. The market, through the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, will determine how EU member states contribute to this target. The Effort Sharing Regulation defines binding national targets to reduce the remaining GHG emissions not covered by the EU ETS. In this paper, an energy optimization model is applied to analyze the capabilit… Show more

“…The mood of tweets was largely negative (43%) or neutral (46%), with a positive sentiment of only 11%. Previous research supports these findings and the discourse around individual topics related to the war in Ukraine, as the potential consequences on energy supplies, fossil fuels, and industry, are discussed (Farrell and Newman, 2019;Goldthau and Sitter, 2022;Ciot, 2023;Rečka et al, 2023;Romanova, 2023;Sheth and Uslay, 2023). In response to the war in Ukraine, the European Union reformulated policies to enforce interdependence on gas suppliers through diversification of fuels and clean energy, including renewable resources such as hydrogen, wind, and solar (Kalantzakos et al, 2023;Kaldor, 2023;Proedrou, 2023).…”

“…Green Deal zároveň předpokládá transformaci na "zelenou" ekonomiku při zachování hospodářského růstu a také vytváření nových "zelených" pracovních míst. (Rečka, Máca a Ščasný, 2023), (Lapčík a kol., 2022) Důležitou je také oblast dopravy, který v ČR desítky tisíc lidí nejenom v samotných dopravních společnostech, ale i v dalších firmách, které se na jejím chodu podílejí. (Suproń a Łącka, 2023) Publikace v pro cíl práce klíčových oblastech ekonomie, ekonomiky a odpovědného managementu i přes velkou důležitost těchto oblastí nejsou v databázi WoS příliš početně zastoupeny.…”

“…Originally, the TIMES-CZ model was based on the Czech region of the pan-European TIMES PanEu model, which was developed by the Institute of Energy Economics and Rational Energy Use at the University of Stuttgart [28]. Since the introduction of the initial version, the TIMES-CZ model has undergone enhancements, including the incorporation of individual facilities operating within the scope of the EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS) [20,21] and the inclusion of a comprehensive transportation module [26].…”

“…This paper primarily examines how different trajectories of forest biomass development will influence the overall energy composition of the Czech economy and Czechia's efforts to attain climate neutrality. We do not present a business-as-usual scenario, as seen in Rečka et al [26]. Our scenarios share common assumptions about prices, the potential of photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy, and the potential of electricity and hydrogen imports, along with energy service demand projections.…”
