“…Courville et al 8 proposed that greater awareness of the significance of these inclusions and their implications will lead to more‐frequent identification and further investigation into their aetiology and significance. This occurred in our Institution, in which we detected the first two cases of green crystals in neutrophils in 2019 1 and the number of patients in which we noticed this abnormality reached a total of nine in 2020. Our data, in agreement with the letter by Shackleton et al , point out that laboratories should be proactive in screening for these inclusions and clinical pathologists should be aware of their connection with an acute liver injury.…”

“…We read with great interest the report by Vicente‐Steijn et al 1 (December 24th 2019) where they highlight the importance of both identifying and reporting the presence of “green neutrophilic inclusions” in the peripheral blood of critically ill patients. In particular, they highlight the potential benefit of “real‐time” digital morphological images provided by some analysers, thus allowing laboratory scientists to alert treating clinicians.…”

“…34 Various hypotheses for the contents of these granules are discussed in the haematology literature. [35][36][37][38][39] Figure 2 shows one of the cookies we distributed, decorated as neutrophil containing a death granule.…”
