Green Synthesis of Capped Gold Nanoparticles and Their Effect On Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria

Abstract: Aim:We report synthesis of capped gold nanoparticles (C-AuNPs) of ≈20–30 nm by reducing HAuCl4 with flower and leaf extracts of Ocimum tenuiflorum, leaves of Azadirachta indica and Mentha spicata and peel of Citrus sinensis plants. Methods:Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) determined their size, shape and topographical structures. The C-AuNPs with UV-Vis spectrophotometer produced a maximum absorption within 530–535 nm wavelengths. Their Fourier transform IR stretching fre… Show more

“…The diffraction peaks of 38.1° relates to (111), 44.5° relates to (200), 64.7° relates to (220), and 77.8° relates to (311) facets of the face center cubic (FCC) crystal lattice; these agree with reported values for similar gold nanostructures [ 69 ]. The reported peak values also matched the planes and face-centered cubic structures of AuNPs prepared by other green syntheses methods [ 22 , 70 , 71 , 72 ].…”

“…The peak of diffraction observed at 77.8°, 64.7°, 44.5°and 38.1°r elated to the facets 311, 220, 200 and 111, respectively, of the face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal lattice, which are compatible with the recorded values of different gold nanostructures [27]. The recorded peak values have matched Au NP's FCC cubic structures as well as planes that were developed by other approaches of green synthesis [28][29][30][31]. Figure 4 shows the FTIR spectrum of the prepared AuNPs, which showed a strong absorption band at 3,400 cm −1 corresponding to O-H stretching vibrations of polyphenolic groups.…”

“…The synthesis of TM-AuNPs was further confirmed by UV–visible spectrophotometry analysis and this data was used to determine the optimum plant concentration to produce the TM-AuNPs from each of the six TM extracts. The Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) of AuNPs results in an absorption maxima (or λ max ) in the region of 500–600 nm [ 10 , 39 ] as is illustrated in Figure 2 , which shows the UV–visible spectra for TM-AuNPs produced with the six different TM extracts at 25 °C and 70 °C. These spectra also represent the AuNPs synthesized with the optimal plant extract concentrations.…”
