Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using water extract of Salvia leriifolia: Antibacterial studies and applications as catalysts in the electrochemical detection of nitrite

Abstract: Here, a green method is described for the biosynthesis of Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using aqueous extracts of the leaf of Salvia leriifolia as reducing and stabilizing agent. Various techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) were employed for the characterization of the structure and morphology of bio‐synthesized AgNPs. The results reveal that AgNPs synthesized with uniform spherical morphology and av… Show more

“…A tendency for aggregation of the synthetic nanoparticles is also observed. This property of metallic nanoparticles such as SnNPs, SnNPs, CdNPs, CuNPs, AgNPs, and TiNPs that were synthesized using environmentally friendly methods has previously reported . The particle size diameter for SnNPs was on average 18.12 nm.…”

“…For example, the peaks at 1020 and 1101 cm −1 could be ascribed to C–O and C–O–C stretching, the peaks at 3426 and 3762 cm −1 relate to O–H and aliphatic C–H stretching, and the peaks in the range 1629–1712 cm −1 correspond to C=C and C=O stretching. These peaks could be considered to indicate the presence of flavonoid, phenolic, and carboxylic compounds, which have been found previously . In agreement with our study and according to previous reports, chemical and biological molecules can be bound to metallic nanoparticles through hydroxyl and carbonyl of biomolecules as reducing, stabilizing, and dispersing agents…”

“…A tendency for aggregation for the synthetic nanoparticles as well as is observed. This property of metallic nanoparticles such as AuNPs, FeNPs, CdNPs, CuNPs, AgNPs, and TiNPs that were synthesized using environmentally friendly methods has previously reported . The pictures also approve uniformity, well dispersed and homogeneous of the biosynthesized AgNPs.…”
