Green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using Sea Lavender (Limonium pruinosum L. Chaz.) extract: characterization, evaluation of anti-skin cancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant potentials

Abstract: In the present study, a green, sustainable, simple and low-cost method was adopted for the synthesis of ZnO NPs, for the first time, using the aqueous extract of sea lavender, Limonium pruinosum (L.) Chaz., as a reducing, capping, and stabilizing agent. The obtained ZnO NPs were characterized using ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–VIS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray d… Show more

“…The SEM analysis was conducted to find the size and surface morphology of pumpkin seed-derived ZnO NP at different magnification levels and the presence of certain elemental composition in ZnO NP was further confirmed by using EDX analysis. where a similar result was also shown in literature (Naiel et al, 2022).…”

“…Our results agree with that of a prior report which specified that the bio-prepared ZnO-NPs produced Limonium pruinosum L. Chaz. extract and recorded a relative IC 50 of 568.59 μg/mL against the WI-38 cell line [ 57 ]. The US Food and Drug Administration recommends that zinc oxide nanoparticles be considered safe (i.e., generally recognized as safe) [ 58 ].…”

“…Obtaining AgNPs is of interest not only as a method and assessment of the level of reducing power, but also as an independent biotechnological process of creating a product (nanoparticles), which can find wide practical applications due to having anticancer effect, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-hyperglycemic activity [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25], as well as anti-quorum sensing potential [26]. Advances of such "green" silver, zink, gold, platinum, nickel, aluminum and iron nanoparticles are widely researched [27][28][29][30][31][32].…”
