This study was carried out to investigate the morphological and histological structures of the testis, epididymis and vas deferens of the Al-Ahsa native rooster (ANR).There were two types of ANR; the brown feather one with light yellow shank and the black feather one with grey or dark grey shank. Their body weight was 1840.88± 92.13 g and 1555.66± 82.83g, respectively. The morphology of the testes showed that the black rooster has larger testes than the brown rooster and there was asymmetry in size between the right and left testis in both. They were grey yellowish in color and oval-shaped, situated in the abdomen dorsal to the proventriculus, the liver and the gizzard, cranial to the lungs, caudal to the abdominal sac and ventral to the kidneys. The histology of the testes revealed the capsule, the different cells of the lining epithelium of the seminiferous tubules and the interstitial tissue. The morphology of the epididymis was revealed pseudostratified columnar epithelium, light brown in color with c to L-shaped, located cranial to the testis and extended caudally to continue with vas deferens. The latter has columnar epithelium, light grey in color, run caudally medial to the kidneys and opened in the cloaca.

Testes are male reproductive organs which are responsible for producing spermatozoa and steroid hormones. This study aims to determine the histology and histomorphometry structure of bali duck testes in the grower phase at the age of 12 weeks in one of the farms in Mengwi District, Badung Regency. The number of samples used in this research was 10 male bali ducks that were in good health. There are two examination methods carried out, namely the qualitative descriptive anatomical structure and histology examination method and the quantitative histomorphometry examination method of bali duck testicles which are analyzed using the One-Sample T-test with a confidence level of 95%. The results of this study show the anatomical structure of the bali duck testicles which are located in the abdominal cavity, between the kidneys and the lungs. The pair of testicles have the shape of a bean and are cream colored. The results of research on the histological structure of bali duck testes consist of seminiferous tubules, interstitial tissue, leydig cells, and tunica albuginea. The results of histomorphometry measurements of bali duck testes showed that the wall thickness of the seminiferous tubules was 23.6760 ± 1.4425 (µm), the number of seminiferous tubules was 421.1000 ± 56.1396 and the thickness of the tunica albuginea was 29.5000 ± 5.048 (µm). Considering the importance of knowledge about the structure of bali duck testicles, it is recommended for future researchers to examine the structure and histomorphometry of bali duck testicles at different ages in the growing phase.

Photoperiod is considered to be one of the most effective environmental factor in controlling the reproductive cycle and gonadal maturation in some mammalian species, but very limited information are available on its effects on reproductive biology of the guinea fowl. Therein, we investigated the effects of varying photoperiodic treatments on morpho-biometry of the excurrent duct system of helmeted guinea fowl (Numida meleagris). A total of twenty-one (21) apparently healthy sexually-matured helmeted guinea fowls were randomly assigned into three (3) photoperiodic regimes; mainly [Group I: Short daylight (SD; 8 HL (Hour of light, Group II: Moderate daylight (MD; 12 HL) and Group III: Long daylight (LD; 16 HL)] of seven birds per group (n=7). After 8 weeks of experimentation, the excurrent ducts were excised and freed of all adhering connective tissues for gross-morphological and morphometric evaluations. The bio-morphometric data (weight and diameter) were significantly increased (p< 0.05) in the epididymis and ductus deferens of guinea fowl exposed to 16 HL, as compared to other treatments. However, no significant (p> 0.05) effect was observed in body weight and length of the excurrent ducts regardless of photoperiod. The observed changes in weight and diameter of the epididymis and ductus deferens of helmeted guinea fowl are thus a consequence of the stimulatory effects of long photoperiod exposure to reproductive activity. Thus, these findings would therefore be useful to guinea fowl breeders in designing appropriate intervention programs necessary to improve their reproduction efficacy and to preserve this species.
