Ground-to-space atmospheric transmittance measurements in the 3- to 5-μm and 8- to 12-μm spectral regions: comparison with LOWTRAN 7

Abstract: The computer code LOWTRAN is widely and extensively used for the prediction of propagation of IR radiation through the atmosphere. The latest version of this code, LOWTRAN 7, is assumed to be the most elaborate and accurate one. Hence it was decided to test its validity by comparing its prediction for ground-to-space slant paths with actual transmittance measurements with the sun as a blackbody source.
