Group Psychotherapy for Parents of Patients with Schizophrenia

Abstract: This combined approach changes the emotional profile of parents, reduces high expressed emotions (fear, sorrow and anger) in parents and helps re-establish their psychic balance and the balance of the whole family system.

“…Hoy en día se ha difundido la necesidad de emplear modelos interdisciplinarios para el tratamiento de la esquizofrenia, privilegiando intervenciones que cuenten con un equipo terapéutico que trabaje desde diferentes disciplinas, como la psicología, psiquiatría, trabajo social, terapia ocupacional, enfermería, entre otras (Uribe-Restrepo, Mora y Cortés-Rodríguez, 2007). Gruber et al (2006) realizaron un estudio con un grupo de padres de hijos diagnosticados con esquizofrenia, quienes fueron tratados psicoterapéuticamente desde el enfoque psicodinámico y psicoeducativo y cuyo objetivo fue "investigar si este enfoque permitiría a los padres de los pacientes con esquizofrenia restablecer su equilibrio psíquico y el equilibrio de todo el sistema familiar al reducir la alta emoción expresada" (p. 487).
