Grouping-Based Fine-Grained Job Scheduling in Grid Computing

Abstract: Grid computing is the technology for building Internet-wide computing environment in which distributed and heterogeneous resources are integrated. However, in Grid environment, job scheduling is confronted with a great challenge. This paper focuses on lightweight jobs scheduling in Grid Computing. An Adaptive Fine-grained Job Scheduling (AFJS) algorithm is proposed. Compared with other finegrained job scheduling algorithms based on grouping, AFJS can outperform them according to the experimental results.

“…In job grouping strategy, the scheduling of application with a large number of small processing requirement (fine grained) job is done and they are converted to coarse grained jobs. The fine grained jobs are also known as light weight job that has few lines of code or very basic arithmetic expressions [5]. The transmission and processing overhead increased drastically due to sending of individual jobs.…”

“…Hierarchical architecture based on small-world cluster and Small World Resource Discovery (SWRD) algorithm used in education resource grid have high search success rate and low query cost [5]. Grouping based fire grained job scheduling algorithm [6] light weight jobs are grouped as coarse grained jobs. This groping based algorithm utilized resourced efficiently, improved processing, reduced total processing time, reduced execution time of the jobs and maximized the utilization of the resources.…”
