“…During the reaction, the base (catalyst) attacks α-hydrogen of acetophenone and forms an enolate anion (carbanion). The carbanion attacks the carbonyl group of benzaldehyde and forms a β-hydroxycarbonyl intermediate, from which chalcone is obtained [ 135 , 136 , 137 , 138 , 139 , 140 , 141 ].…”

“…Molecular organic crystals without ionic bonds have no similar problems and can be used in the low-frequency band . Among many molecular types of organic NLO crystals, chalcone has attracted widespread attention owing to its application value not only in biopharmaceuticals but also in nonlinear optics and excessive synthesis flexibility. Although some chalcone derivatives with the D−π–A−π–D configuration have been found to have NLO properties, such as DAMO (C 18 H 19 NO 2 , P 2 1 ), MPP (C 15 H 13 NO 2 , Pna 2 1 ), DMMC (C 18 H 18 O 4 , P 2 1 ), and so on, they also have high powder SHG activity; however, most of the reported chalcone crystals are third-order nonlinear optical crystals with a centrosymmetric structure. To the best of our knowledge, there are fewer high-performing second-order NLO crystals with a chalcone structure.…”
