Growth and Characterization of Barium Oxide Nanoclusters on YSZ(111)

Abstract: Barium oxide (BaO) was grown on a yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) substrate by oxygen plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. In situ reflection high-energy electron diffraction, ex situ X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have confirmed that BaO grows as clusters on YSZ(111). During and following growth under ultrahigh vacuum conditions, we found BaO remained in single phase. When exposed to ambient conditions, the clusters transformed to BaCO 3 and/or… Show more

“…23 Also, for ZnO/Ba(OH) 2 , two prominent peaks at $781 eV and $796 eV can be attributed to Ba (3d 5/2 ) & Zn (3d 3/2 ). 45 However, the intensity of these peaks decreases signicantly in the case of ZnO:Ba(OH) 2 (9 wt%) nanocomposite and these peaks are absent in the case of ZnO as can be seen in the Fig. 4(b).…”

“…From the O 1s spectrum it is not possible to distinguish between hydroxide and carbonate environments as their BEs are very close to each other. 48 However, the C 1s line conrms that this contribution stems predominantly from hydroxide contributions as the amount of carbonate species detected at 289.3 eV is minimal (Fig. S8 †).…”

“…Figure 6 (a) clearly showed a doublet of Zr 3d for Zr 3d3/2 and Zr 3d5/2 at B.E. of 183.2 and 185.5 eV, respectively [40] . XPS spectra of O 1s (Figure 6c), after deconvolution showed three peaks at B.E.…”
