Tb
3+-activated Sr 3 Gd(BO 3 ) 3 green phosphors were prepared by conventional solid-state reaction. The vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation, photoluminescence (PL) and decay properties of the phosphors in the visible range were investigated. The excitation spectrum showed a strong broad band from 160 to 200 nm with a maximum at 183 nm which was adjacent to the VUV excitation light source of 172 nm. Under excitation at 172 nm, the optimum co-doping concentration of Tb 3+ was 10 mol%, and the emission intensity of Sr 3 Gd 0.9 (BO 3 ) 3
