Growth and production responses of local sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas L.) genotypes on paddy straw biochar application in the paddy fields

Abstract: Abstrak. Biochar application as an organic soil conditioner can increase plant growth and production, especially on suboptimal lands. This research aimed to determine the response of growth and production in some local sweet potato genotypes (Accession of Cengkeh Turi with yellow tuber flesh, Accession of Cengkeh Turi with orange tuber flesh, and Accession of Tanah Seribu with orange tuber flesh) on various doses application of paddy straw biochar (0, 5, 10, 15 tons/ha) in paddy fields. A field experiment was … Show more

“…Potassium has various roles in increasing root growth, cellulose and starch formation, enzyme activity, photosynthetic rate, maintaining turgor, tolerance to drought stress and biotic stress. Whereas in other root crops such IOP Publishing doi:10.1088/1755-1315/1241/1/012027 4 as sweet potatoes, the role of organic fertilizer in increasing the weight of the tubers is also very significant compared to the control treatment which was not given organic fertilizer [11]. The treatment of the type of planting material for elephant foot yam had no significant effect on the number of bulbils while the number of bulbils increased significantly by adding manure.…”
