Growth of Monodisperse Silver Nanoparticles in Polymer Matrix by Spray Pyrolysis

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles were simply prepared by spray pyrolysis of aqueous solutions of AgNO 3 , and dextran or Poly (vinylalcohol) (PVA) without any reducing agent. Monodisperse particles well-organized in polymer matrix were obtained above a certain critical ratio of polymer to silver nitrate, usually around 1, and below decomposition temperatures of the polymer. Otherwise, the silver particles grew polydisperse due to the imperfect confinement of the polymer. Their shapes varied from facetted with dextran to s… Show more

“…There is increasing consideration on the synthesis and construction of AgNPs and several physical and chemical approaches were developed (Dimitrijevic et al, 2001;Kim et al, 2006;Pal et al, 2009;Pol et al, 2002;Saifuddin et al, 2009;Song et al, 2009;Starowicz et al, 2006). But, there are some major problems with these methods such as high energy consumption, employing extreme and harsh conditions, using organic solvents and chemical agents that can be dangerous to human health and the environment.…”

“…A variety of methods exists to synthesize Ag-NPs, including the microemulsion technique, γ-ray, UV or microwave irradiation and spray pyrolysis [3][4][5][6]. Polymers have also been used as matrices in nanocomposites or as stabilizers to provide stability for the metal nanoparticles against oxidation, agglomeration and precipitation [7].…”

“…Table 1 summarizes the previous reports on the control of the morphology and size of silver particles using the precursor types and precursor concentration in different spray pyrolysis methods [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. As seen in Table 1, the particle sizes highly depend on the precursor concentration (i.e., the lower precursor concentration the smaller particle size) [15][16][17][18][19]. Titanium dioxide is typically used as a pigment because of its high refractive index.…”
