Growth, Spectral and Luminescence Study of Cubic Bi4Ge3O12:Pr3+ Crystals

Abstract: Absorption and luminescence of a concentration series of (Bi1−x Prx)4Ge3O12 single crystals are investigated. The intensity analysis of Pr3+ spectral lines in Bi4Ge3O12 crystals shows that the Judd‐Ofelt approach is inadequate. Therefore experimental methods are applied to obtain the main spectroscopic characteristics. The study of probabilities of non‐radiative transitions from different states of activator ions allowed to estimate the luminescence quantum yield from the metastable 3P0 state of Pr3+ ions in B… Show more

“…Bismuth germanate crystal Bi 4 Ge 3 O 12 (BGO) belongs to cubic system with the space group of I43d [16]. It has been studied as a host for Er 3+ , Eu 3+ , Dy 3+ , Pr 3+ and Nd 3+ ions, etc., with applications as optical temperature sensors, scintillators and laser gain media [17][18][19][20][21]. In addition, as a host material, BGO possesses many qualities desirable for laser applications such as excellent physical and chemical properties [22].…”

“…They have found a wide range of applications such as scintillator materials for x-ray, -ray and particle detectors due to their roomtemperature luminescence [1]; a solid state laser host matrix of rare-earth ions [2]; in opto-electronic devices as voltage and electric field sensors [3], as well as media for holographic data storage [4]. BGO crystals are isotropic and non-gyrotropic.…”
