A systematic literature review is presented that surveyed the topic of cloud testing over the period 2012--2017. Cloud testing can refer either to testing cloud-based systems (testing of the cloud) or to leveraging the cloud for testing purposes (testing in the cloud): both approaches (and their combination into testing of the cloud in the cloud) have drawn research interest. An extensive paper search was conducted by both automated query of popular digital libraries and snowballing, which resulted in the final selection of 147 primary studies. Along the survey, a framework has been incrementally derived that classifies cloud testing research among six main areas and their topics. The article includes a detailed analysis of the selected primary studies to identify trends and gaps, as well as an extensive report of the state-of-the-art as it emerges by answering the identified Research Questions. We find that cloud testing is an active research field, although not all topics have received enough attention and conclude by presenting the most relevant open research challenges for each area of the classification framework.

SummaryCovering all the possible paths of the graphical user interface (GUI) with test scripts would take too much effort and result in serious maintenance issues. We propose complementing scripted testing with scriptless test automation using the open‐source testar tool. This paper gives a comprehensive overview of testar and its latest extensions together with the ongoing and future research. With this paper, we hope we can help and encourage other researchers to use testar for their GUI testing‐related research and pave the way for an international research agenda in GUI testing built upon stable and open‐source infrastructure.

Graphical User Interface (GUI) accounts for half or more of the amount of source code in modern software. Software verification of GUI-based software has been discussed in literature. GUI testing and system testing are two tools used in software verification of GUI-based software. Static analysis is a tool for software verification that can study relationships between inputs and executed parts of software code. The thesis bridges the gap between system testing and GUI testing through static analysis.Specifically, it introduces the use of static analysis combined with system tests to verify the GUI-based Software Under Test (SUT). The static analysis will be applied on the source code of the GUI part of the SUT. System tests will be applied on the source code of the non-GUI part of the SUT.
