Guided Inquiry in Sophomore Organic Lecture: Deducing Mechanisms by Reaction Mapping

Abstract: Arrow-pushing mechanisms can be understood more readily if the changes from starting material to product are systematically charted. This can be done by labeling the relevant atoms in the starting material and in the product, then making lists of the bonds to be broken and the bonds to be formed.
