Gum Arabic Nanoparticles as Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Reinforced Concrete Exposed to Carbon Dioxide Environment

Abstract: The inhibiting effect of Gum Arabic-nanoparticles (GA-NPs) to control the corrosion of reinforced concrete that exposed to carbon dioxide environment for 180 days has been investigated. The steel reinforcement of concrete in presence and absence of GA-NPs were examined using various standard techniques. The physical/surface changes of steel reinforcement was screened using weight loss measurement, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In a… Show more

“…Furthermore, the adsorption energy values of NC for the post-geometry optimal phase, i.e., relaxed (130.73 kcal mol −1 ), were also grea than CEL (61.39 kcal mol −1 ) and much more negative than CEL (2962.22 kcal mol −1 ) for t pre-geometry optimal phase, i.e., unrelaxed (2194.93 kcal mol −1 ). Similarly, Assad et al [83] researched the ability of gum arabic-NPs (GA-NPs) to prevent corrosion in reinforced concrete after 180 days of exposure to a CO 2 atmosphere. Utilizing a variety of accepted methods, the steel reinforcement of concrete was tested both with and without GA-NPs.…”

“…Traditional cement production produces significant amounts of carbon dioxide and consumes a great deal of energy [ 1 , 2 ]. Reduction in the emission of CO 2 is a major issue for the cement industries worldwide due to the production of vast amount of cement [ 3 , 4 ]. Many studies showed that geopolymers (GPs) can serve as viable alternatives to OPC, reducing the greenhouse gases emission.…”

“…Amongst all the nanoscale structures produced by the top-down or bottom-up approaches, the nanoparticles (NPs) became most interesting. These are usually produced in the form of very fine powders or colloidal suspensions [1][2][3][4]. Various emerging properties of these NPs mainly depend on their individual components that are appreciably different from their bulk counterparts [5,6].…”
