H2, N2, CO2, and CH4 Unary Adsorption Isotherm Measurements at Low and High Pressures on Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework ZIF-8

Abstract: Excess adsorption of CO 2 , CH 4 , N 2 , and H 2 on ZIF-8 was measured gravimetrically in the pressure range ranging from vacuum to 30 MPa at 298.15, 313.15, 333.15, 353.15, and 394.15 K using a magnetic suspension balance. The textural properties of the adsorbent materiali.e., skeletal density, surface area, pore volume, and pore-size distributionwere estimated by helium gravimetry and N 2 (77 K) physisorption. The adsorption isotherms were fitted with the Sips isotherm model and the virial equation, and t… Show more

“…Temperature-dependent Toth (td-Toth), chemi-physisorption (CP), and virial isotherm model fits for the CO 2 adsorption data, single-site Langmuir (SSL) isotherm model fits for the N 2 data, and Guggenheim−Anderson−de Boer (GAB) isotherm model fits for the H 2 O adsorption data were performed using the procedure described in our previous works. 42,43 This procedure was carried out with MATLAB R2020a (The Mathworks Inc.) using the in-house software package isothermFittingTool. 44 The isosteric heats of adsorption for CO 2 , N 2 , and H 2 O were calculated by using the van't Hoff equation for specified loading (n) and corresponding pressure (P) values.…”

“…45 Note that a PL of 10 wt% ZIF-8 in Silicone 704 turned out to be unstable, resulting in rapid sedimentation of the nanocrystals within ca. 1 h. No account of CO2 induced flexibility in the examined pressure-temperature conditions has been given in the literature for ZIF-8 46 and hence no gated uptake was expected for the CO2 sorption isotherm of PL8_5. Indeed, the CO2 sorption isotherm of PL8_5 at 25 °C displays a nearly linear shape without gated sorption, in agreement with the shape of the CO2 sorption isotherm of the pure ZIF-8 crystals (see Figure S16).…”
