H2S Sensors: Synthesis, Optical Properties, and Selected Biomedical Applications under Visible and NIR Light

Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is an essential signaling gas within the cell, and its endogenous levels are correlated with various health diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, Down’s syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. Because it plays such diverse biological functions, being able to detect H2S quickly and accurately in vivo is an area of heightened scientific interest. Using probes that fluoresce in the near-infrared (NIR) region is an effective and convenient method of detecting H2S. This approach allow… Show more

“…A decrease in H 2 S levels has been reported in several diseases, including cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and kidney disease [ 101 ]. On the other hand, excessive production of H 2 S has been linked to conditions, such as Down syndrome [ 102 ] and cancer [ 103 , 104 ], underscoring the importance of a delicate balance in H 2 S homeostasis and also the role of H2S in general cellular homeostasis ( Table 2 ).…”

“…The high absorption peak near 6245 cm À1 corresponds to the H-S-H stretching vibration, which is also due to the large amount of bile acid-like components in C. bovis. 22 This appearance further indicates that the bile acid-like components in different varieties of C. bovis have significant differences.…”

“…In Scheme 2, compound 1 and compound 2 were prepared on the basis of previous reports. 38,39 Mixtures of compound 1 (0.5 mmol, 193.1 mg) and compound 2 (0.5 mmol, 185.9 mg) were dissolved in dry dichloromethane, and stirred for 24 h at room temperature under the catalysis of 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (1.0 mmol, 191.0 mg) and 4-dimethylaminopyridine (0.2 mmol, 24.3 mg). 40,41 A vacuum filtration method was employed to remove the solvent, and then the solid compound was refined by column chromatography with silica gel and a mobile phase of dichloromethane and methanol.…”
