Habitat suitability model of endangered Latidens salimalii and the probable consequences of global warming

Abstract: Salim Ali's fruit bat, Latidens salimalii, is a monotypic endangered fruit bat endemic to Western Ghats (WG) with an ambiguous distribution. The distribution range, habitat suitability, and biology of this species are still uncertain. Endemic species inhabiting the high elevation of WG like L. salimalii are threatened due to climatic change and seeks urgent management interventions. Hence, we developed a habitat suitability model for L. salimalii using MaxEnt in the current climate condition and projected thei… Show more

“…The Western Ghats receive good rainfall, which differs from place to place, and it is responsible for the formation of northeast and southwest monsoons. At present, the Western Ghats is facing severe threats due to uncontrolled anthropogenic pressure and climate change (Raman et al, 2020a(Raman et al, , 2020b)…”

“…The area was calculated from no suitability to high suitability using the logistic output of MaxEnt, and the logical suitability index (SI). We classified the suitability maps into five categories including “highly suitable habitat (HSH)” (SI ≥ 0.7), “suitable habitat (SH)” (0.4 ≤ SI < 0.7), “marginally suitable habitat (MSH)” (0.1 ≤ SI < 0.4), and “unsuitable habitat (UH)” (SI < 0.1, Gilani et al, 2020; Raman et al, 2020; Singh et al, 2020).…”
