“…To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to highlight that reputation resetting mechanisms give rise to a new set of pressures in management, namely the tension between an app's operational stability and its loss of reputation. While prior studies have advocated that frequent updating of apps is rather beneficial for their survival on app platforms (Pervin et al 2019), we showcase that, with reputation resetting, there might be asymmetric consequences on app demand that need to be factored into developers' app updating decision.
