“…The general results of the studied population [demographic variables (age and sex), case‐mix (morbidity) and levels of resource use] fall within the parameters expected in our country's PHC [4,8,9,17–19]. Furthermore, the distribution of patients within the ACG groups is similar to the results obtained in other studied (60% of the patients were grouped in 10 ACG categories) and is stable over time.…”

“…Furthermore, although the number of patients included in the study ( n = 227 235) is sufficient, it should be larger for this type of study. The ACGs have been designed as measure of health status and the health resources used in a group of individuals [8,9]; therefore, future research is necessary in population‐level risk adjustment and capitation payment so that the ACG system can be used in the clinical management of the centres. The proliferation of similar studies, with homogenous definition criteria between variables, would favour the possibility of benchmarking between centres and professionals from different organizations.…”

“…ACG can be used for more precise and equitable financial decision-making and evaluate the efficiency of the use of health resources [ 12 - 14 ]. Currently, in Spain, some management groups promote the separation of financing, purchasing and provision of services, but require more accurate instruments to measure care activity.…”
