<p>Alopesia areata (AA) merupakan penyakit autoimun yang ditandai dengan alopesia non-sikatrisial. Kondisi ini merupakan dermatosis yang umum ditemui pada anak. Gambaran klinisnya berupa alopesia non-sikatrisial fokal, perlu dibedakan dari kondisi dapatan serupa lainnya, terutama yang sering terjadi pada anak. Kami melaporkan 5 kasus AA pada anak berusia di bawah 18 tahun. Diagnosis berdasarkan pemeriksaan klinis dan penunjang. Pemahaman karakteristik AA perlu diketahui untuk diagnosis, terutama pada pasien anak.</p><p>Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by non-scarring alopecia. It is one of the most commonly found dermatosis in pediatric population. The clinical manifestations of focal non-scarring alopecia must be differentiated from other acquired focal non-scarring alopecia, especially those in children. This paper report 5 AA cases in children. Diagnosis was based on clinical and supporting examinations. Understanding the characteristics of AA, particularly in children, is important to make correct diagnosis.</p>

Hair loss affects many people worldwide. Hair loss is common and can be treated with vitamins and minerals. Black rice (Oryza sativa l. indica) contains phenolic and anthocyanin-rich flavonoids. The study examined whether black rice extract ointment accelerated Wistar rat (Rattus norvegicus) hair follicle growth. This was an actual experiment with 30 mice. The research involved acclimating test animals in the lab, manufacturing black rice extract, and making ointment. After an Ointment Evaluation Test, Phytochemical Screening was performed. Test the FT-IR Functional Group. DPPH testing will determine antioxidant activity. Finally, four groups (control group, treatment groups 1, 2, and 3 with 10%, 20%, and 30% ointments) received treatment for 21 days. Study results were handled using SPSS. The normality test showed 0.652 > 0.05 significance, while the Independent Samples T-Test showed 0.00 < 0.05 significance. Alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and steroids/triterpenoids make black rice an antioxidant, according to the active compound test. For average hair growth, 10% black rice ointment dose therapy yielded 0.681 cm, 20% 0.769 cm, and 30% 0.851 cm. The study found that black rice extract contains high antioxidants (ppm concentration value <50) that can prevent premature skin aging and promote hair and skin health.

Background: Female pattern hair loss is also observed in women without increased androgen levels. Vitamin D is a factor that has recently been considered in dealing with these patients. Deficiency of Vitamin D might be correlated with diffuse hair loss. Objective: To determine the frequency of serum levels of Vitamin D3 in patients with female pattern of hair loss (FPHL) at tertiary care hospital Karachi. Methodology: This cross-sectional research was conducted upon a sample of 163 female patients (chosen via non-probability – consecutive sampling) presenting to the Dept. of Dermatology, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi from 29th July 2018 to 28 th January 2019, with a clinical diagnosis of FPHL. Data was recorded onto a structured questionnaire containing inquiries pertaining to basic biodata, sociodemographic details, and inferences obtained from blood tests (CBC, serum ferritin, TSH level and vitamin D level). Serum 25 OH Vitamin D level < 20 was taken as deficient, 21-29 was insufficient and over 30 was sufficient. Data was analyzed using SPSS. v. 21.0. Results: The mean age was 30.39±6.36 years. Mean FPHL duration was 5.85±2.89 months. Total 63.2% patients were classified as mild, 26.45% patients were classified as moderate and 10.4% patients were classified as severe. Total 73% patients were found as vitamin D deficient, 22.1% as vitamin D insufficient and 4.9% as vitamin D sufficient. Significant association of vitamin D deficiency was observed with education status, vitamin D intake since past 6 months, and socio economic status. Conclusion: Results showed high vitamin D3 deficiency (73.0%) among patients with female pattern of hair loss (FPHL).
