Half Car Suspension System Integrated With PID Controller

Abstract: In this paper, modeling and simulation of nonlinear, Half-car Active Vehicle Suspension System (HAVSS) reinforced with PID controller is presented. The model has 4 degrees of freedom; comprising of heave movements of the front and rear axle, pitch and heave motions of the unsprung mass of the vehicle. The vehicle is excited by a triangular bump on an otherwise smooth road. The objective of the presented model is to isolate the vehicle body from these road disturbances in order to maximize passenger ride comfor… Show more

“…[rf] rf signal In order to generate the road disturbance input, a signal builder source block is used, which abides by equation (11) and was implemented using the code lines (14). Additionally, the time delay (12) of the road disturbance for the rear suspension is implemented using a variable time delay block.…”

“…The proportional controller action is generated based on the current error, this term is represented as the multiplication of the system error and the proportional gain so can be mathematically expressed as [16,17] .. (12) The integral control provided a control signal to the system, these signal are generated based on the sum of recent error. The integral action it is mainly utilized to eliminate static error and improve the stability of system by removing the offset introduced by the proportional control, but a phase lag is added into the system.…”

“…1418 The research conducted by Rosli et al 19 combined the active force control and iterative learning together with the PID-based approach in a new hybrid control method for a vehicle suspension system. Kunya and Ata 20 modeled and simulated a half car active suspension system by using a triangular bump as a road disturbance to isolate the vehicle body in order to maximize passenger ride comfort and retain a continuous road-wheel contact. They noticed that the ride comfort was improved by the given road bump.…”
