Halloysite Nanotube-Based Pesticide Formulations with Enhanced Rain Erosion Resistance, Foliar Adhesion, and Insecticidal Effect

Abstract: The incorporation of green and sustainable nanomaterials in pesticide formation is an effective method to lower the use of conventional pesticides without adverse effects on productivity. Here pesticide Pickering emulsions stabilized by halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were developed for low cost, less environmental pollution, low toxic effects, and better emulsion stability. HNTs were added to chlorantraniliprole (CAP) emulsions, and good stability was exhibited due to the adsorption and aggregation of HNTs at the… Show more

“…To evaluate the stability and dispersibility of the emulsion, we slightly modified the method of GB/T 1603–2001 and Chen et al. ; 0.1 mL of β-CYP EC-2 or β-CYP EC-3 was added to 9.9 mL of distilled water, and the resulting β-CYP EC emulsion was allowed to stand at room temperature for 14 d, with observations made for any changes during this period.…”

“…Other materials. In addition to the above inorganic drug carriers, there are still many carriers to be developed and improved, such as nanotubes, 106 porous calcium carbonate, carbon nanoparticles, montmorillonite 107 and diatomite. 108 Porous calcium carbonate microspheres (PCMs) prepared by a soluble starch (SS) regulated facile coprecipitation method possessed a large specific surface area and functional groups and can be used as a carrier of typical herbicide prometryn, and prometryn was effectively loaded through electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding (Fig.…”

“…An emulsion of chlorantraniliprole (CAP) in xylene was added to an aqueous HNTs dispersion, forming a three-dimensional network structure that showed increased leaf adhesion, rain erosion resistance, and insecticidal effect in comparison to “free” CAP [ 88 ]. To test the insecticidal activity of the synthesized system, S. frugiperda was selected as a pest model.…”
