Hand Preference and Difference Patterns Using the Available Motions Inventory (AMI)

There i s a clear need f o r a s s e s s i n g hand p r e f e r e n c e w i t h an o b j e c t i v e and q u a n t i t a t i v e t a s k p e r f o r m a n c e s y s t e m which i s i n d u s t r i a l l y r e l e v a n t . The A v a i l a b l e Motions I n v e n t o r y (AMI) was a d m i n i s t e r e d t o 80 s u b j e c t s w i t h a computerized d a t a a c q u i s i t i o n system. Hand p r e f e r e n c e was e s t a b l i s h e d u s i n g n o r m a l i z e d A M 1 s u b t e s t s c o r e s . An a n a l y s i s o f v a r i a n c e was performed t o d e t e c t t h e effects o f hand p r e f e r e n c e and gender on t h e A M 1 s u b t e s t s c o r e s . S u b s e q u e n t l y , t -t e s t a n d c o r r e l a t i o n a n a l y s e s were u s e d t o f u r t h e r a n a l y z e t h e d i f f e r e n t i a l e f f e c t s o f hand p r e f e r e n c e and gender on t h e A M 1 s u b t e s t s c o r e s and s u b t e s t c a t e g o r i e s .
