Hand tool handle design based on hand measurements

Abstract: Abstract. This study provides a tool handle design guideline based on measurements of hand gripping diameter. Anthropometric measurements on hands of 60 participants were collected with a caliper. The results in the current study concluded the guidelines for handle design, including: (1) a definition of handle design was depended on the users' hand length and hand breadth, (2) different gender would affect the size of tool handle, (3) the handle length at least should be 100mm, (4) the cross-section handle of … Show more

“…The width of the slots is optimized on the basis of the average diameters of the different blood vessel, which range between 1.2 and 2.8 mm (24), while the length of the slots are optimized to have multiple operational frequencies between 0.5 and 3 GHz. The hand ranges between 167.9 and 187.9 mm in terms of length and between 75.2 and 83.6 mm in terms of breadth for women and men, respectively (25). After optimization, the final dimensions of the flexible antenna are set to 70 mm by 80 mm.…”

“…Inappropriate hand tools, which put a lot of pressure on the hand, increase discomfort, and reduce job productivity, are one of the effective factors in causing such disorders on the hand [15] . For example, if the length of the tool hand is less than the width of the palm, the person will feel a lot of discomfort and a lot of pressure will be applied to the palm during long-term use [16] . Another study found that using non-electric hand tools doubled the risk of WMSDs in people [17] .…”

“…S ergonomskog stajališta, najvažniji dio ručnog alata je njegova ručka. Rezultati istraživanja antropometrije ljudske šake mogu se koristiti za pravilan odabir ručnog alata, ali također pružaju dobru osnovu pri definiranju smjernica za pravilno oblikovanje ručnih alata koji će osigurati ugodan rad (Chandra et al, 2011., Wang, Cai, 2017., Mohammad, 2005. Neprikladni materijali mogu pridonijeti ozljedama i nesrećama (Parmeggiani, 1983.).…”
