Harmonic Elimination in Three-Phase Voltage Source Inverters by Particle Swarm Optimization

Abstract: -This paper presents accurate solutions for nonlinear transcendental equations of the selective harmonic elimination technique used in three-phase PWM inverters feeding the induction motor by particle swarm optimization (PSO). With the proposed approach, the required switching angles are computed efficiently to eliminate low order harmonics up to the 23 rd from the inverter voltage waveform, whereas the magnitude of the fundamental component is controlled to the desired value. A set of solutions and the evalua… Show more

“…This waveform is either square wave or quasi-square wave. The remaining higher-order harmonics are then eliminated by using a small passive filter to reduce harmonic distortion into the load or the grid [1][2][3]. SHEPWM has several advantages including higher voltage gain due to over modulation is possible, reduced ripple on the dc-link voltage, a reduction in switching loses owing to reduced number of switching or switching frequency, elimination of lower order harmonics [4].…”

“…A host of PWM strategies have been researched with specific targets viz. enhancing the fundamental [6][7][8], controlling the VSI in pulse dropping region [9,10], extending the linearity of output voltage with modulation index [11,12], single mode of control [13], device thermal management [14], reduction of switching losses [15], reduction of distortion [16][17][18], distribution of harmonic power [19] etc. These PWM strategies perform truthfully when the practical conditions in system are ideal.…”
