Haynaldia villosa NAM-V1 is linked with the powdery mildew resistance gene Pm21 and contributes to increasing grain protein content in wheat

Abstract: BackgroundThe 6AL/6VS translocation lines, carrying the wheat powdery mildew resistance gene Pm21, are planted on more than 3.4 million hectares. The NAM-A1 gene, located on chromosome 6AS of hexaploid wheat, has been implicated with increased wheat grain protein content (GPC). However, the NAM-A1 gene was removed from the 6AL/6VS translocation lines after the original chromosome 6AS was replaced by chromosome 6VS of Haynaldia villosa. The present study aimed to clone the NAM homologous gene from chromosome 6V… Show more

“…Fageria and Baligar [51] also reported that high AE is obtained if the yield increment per unit nutrient applied is high because of reduced losses and increased uptake of nutrients. The results corroborate the findings of several authors [52][53][54][55][56][57]. The superiority of treatments in terms of AE for micronutrients (Zn, Fe) differed in comparison with macronutrients.…”

“…Previous studies have suggested that NAM-B1, B2, A1, D1, and D2 might be redundant [35], and we found high correlation (>0.9) between NAM gene expression profiles. The NAM genes start with low gene expression (<0.5 log2), increasing at around GS50.…”

“…In order to test the annotation quality of the 6VS, we used genes NLR-V [32], STPK-V [33] and NAM-V1 [9] cloned from 6VS to perform BLASTn search. We found sequences homologous at 99.93%, 100.00% and 99.93%, respectively, implying a high quality of H. villosa 6VS annotation.…”
