Haze Removal Based on a Fully Automated and Improved Haze Optimized Transformation for Landsat Imagery over Land

Abstract: Optical satellite imagery is often contaminated by the persistent presence of clouds and atmospheric haze. Without an effective method for removing this contamination, most optical remote sensing applications are less reliable. In this research, a methodology has been developed to fully automate and improve the Haze Optimized Transformation (HOT)-based haze removal. The method is referred to as AutoHOT and characterized with three notable features: a fully automated HOT process, a novel HOT image post-processi… Show more

“…International Ammunition Technical Guidelines have introduced ‘Blast Damage Estimation Tool’, which provides simple empirical correlations of explosion consequences from the detonation of a certain amount of explosives at distances of concern: degree of damage to brick structures and windows, blast-related injury levels, and maximum affected range by ground vibration [ 26 ]. When enters the TNT amount range from munition to structure, calculations for damages to brick structures at distance in meters (m) of concern are shown in Table 1 .…”

“…During this process, haze reduction under radiometric corrections in ERDAS IMAGINE 2014 was applied. Otherwise, results may less reliable in the presence of clouds and atmospheric haze [ 26 ]. Thereafter, the images were exported to ArcGIS software (version 10.8.1).…”

“…An atmospheric scattering correction technique for optical data based on dark object subtraction (DOS) was presented by Chavez [1], [2]. Zhang et al [3] propose a haze optimized transformation (HOT) for the characterization of spatial distribution of haze and the false HOT responses generated numerous strategies research and approaches [4], [5], [6], [7]. Among the haze removal techniques literature presents the ones based on background suppressed haze thickness index (BSHTI) [8], haze thickness map (HTM) [9], [10] and a homomorphic filter [11], [12].…”

“…Oceans have a large amount of means of energy, which plays an essential role in the prolongation of existence on earth, and aquatic survey involves high technological activities [1,2]. Fog and haze removal are mandatory for applications that are instantaneous, for example, transportation that is video-directed [3][4][5], environment monitoring [6][7][8], for surveying instantaneous remote detection pictures [9][10][11][12], and the auto-pilot supported structures [13][14][15]. In addition to this, it is quite challenging to precisely recover remotely sensed objects covered by thick clouds and shadows [16].…”
