Healing effect of andiroba-based emulsion in cutaneous wound healing via modulation of inflammation and transforming growth factor beta 3

Abstract: To evaluate the effects and mechanisms of andiroba-based emulsion (ABE) topical treatment on full-thickness cutaneous wounds in rats. Methods: The wounds were harvested on days 3, 7, 15, and 20 post-surgery. Wound contraction rate, quantitative immunohistochemistry [macrophages, myofibroblasts, capillaries, collagens (col) I and III, transforming growth factor β3β (TGFβ3)], and tensile strength were assessed. Results: Treated wounds were smaller, contracted earlier and had increased angiogenesis, fewer CD68+ a… Show more

“…In accordance with these results, during the early stage of the wound healing process, when compared with the negative control and agar gels, the squalene-loaded emulgel scaffold-treated burnt wound injuries show a high influx of macrophages, and later during the maturation stage of wound healing, macrophage count was decreased due to the anti-inflammatory activity of the squalene. 27,[48][49][50][51] In the current research, when compared with the agar gels and negative control, the squalene-loaded emulgel scaffold endorsed a solid rise in Ki-67 cells. Moreover, this Ki-67 immunohistostaining was essential for identification of granular tissue formation and neovascularization during the burn wound-healing process.…”

“…Eventually, after rinsing under tap water, all the slides, 4th, 8th, 12th day tissue sections, were counter-stained with Harris' hematoxylin, dehydrated in ethanol, and finally were mounted with media. 27,[44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51]…”

“…Resultados similares foram obtidos em estudos com uso de outras plantas. Chia et al (37) demonstraram que o uso de emulsão à base de andiroba em lesões produzidas experimentalmente em ratos, melhorou os níveis de fibroblastos e colágeno na lesão e Zain et al (30) observaram que o extrato de óleo de palma estimulou a proliferação e migração de fibroblastos em cultura de células. “…Studies have shown that essential fatty acids are the catalyzing agents of the healing process [38], stimulating cell proliferation, collagen production, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action [41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49]. The andiroba's oil shows many therapeutic finalities, due its natural repellent [49], dermatological properties [50,51], as well as its excellent anti-inflammatory, antibacterial performance, wound healing activity [52,53], antiparasitic, insecticide [54,55], anti-allergic effect [56], and antinociceptive responses [57,58].…”
