J. Naylor, Simmonds, Riddoch, Velleman, & Turton, 1999), and 6 were uncontrolled pretest–posttest studies (del Rey-Moya et al, 2013; Dubbert, Cooper, Kirchner, Meydrech, & Bilbrew, 2002; Josyula & Lyle, 2013; McKay et al, 2009; Sherman, Gilliland, Speckman, & Freund, 2007; Verwey et al, 2014). Although most studies demonstrated efficacy, physical activity measures were usually self-reported or collected by questionnaires or logbooks ( n = 9), except for 6 studies, which collected data via physical activity devices.…”

“…Intervention groups had greater increases in the frequency and/or duration of walking (Dubbert et al, 2008; Little et al, 2004), overall physical activity (Dubbert et al, 2002; Josyula & Lyle, 2013; Little et al, 2004; Verwey et al, 2014), leisure time physical activity (Elley et al, 2003), and moderate or vigorous physical activity (Dubbert et al, 2008; Murchie et al, 2003; Steptoe et al, 1999); greater increases in the proportion of participants achieving at least 150 min of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week; greater increases in daily step-counts (McKay et al, 2009; Mutrie et al, 2012; Piette et al, 2011); and better exercise adherence after more than 14 sessions of exercise training (del Rey-Moya et al, 2013; Sherman et al, 2007). Findings in 4 of the 19 studies did not demonstrate a significant difference between intervention and control groups in levels of walking or overall physical activity.…”
