The research note focuses on the issues of eating behaviour of young people in Arkhangelsk. The authors analyze the dynamics of general indicators of morbidity and mortality from diseases of the digestive system in the regions of the Arctic zone and substantiate the relevance of nutrition studies in these regions. Based on the results of the survey conducted in 2018 at schools, colleges and universities in Arkhangelsk, the authors show that a significant part of the youth have irregular eating habits and characterise the structure of their own nutrition as unsatisfactory. University students show a greater commitment to balanced nutrition than college students, but it is college and university students that disregard frequency of nutrition, which can be a consequence of inadequate catering arrangement and its affordability at local schools.

Large diasporas of former Soviet Union (FSU) immigrants are found in the USA, Germany, and Israel. To synthesize evidence, identify limitations, and propose future directions we conducted an integrative review on the health literacy of FSU immigrants, migrants, or refugees in four languages. Following integrative review and PRISMA guidelines, we searched four databases in English and performed supplementary searches in Russian, German, and Hebrew to identify qualitative and quantitative studies on FSU immigrants and health literacy. Six articles met inclusion criteria in English and one in German; the majority were published in the last five years. Only two articles measured health literacy of FSU immigrants, which was lower than the general population. Four articles were about immigrants with a mean age ≥50 years. All articles stressed the value of translated, culturally relevant health information. The health literacy of FSU immigrants is understudied, despite clear needs. Future research should include assessments of FSU immigrants’ health literacy and include diverse (e.g., age, gender) yet well-defined populations to determine both barriers and facilitators to their health literacy. This review, an example of a multilingual search, provided a comprehensive understanding of existing literature and is a useful approach for global health literacy research.

As a rule, the state of health and the potential of public health is assessed based on the use of biomedical criteria. Today, these assessments need to be supplemented by social criteria, among which one of the most important is the criterion of the active attitude of individuals and communities to their health. The article presents the potential of health as a specific social phenomenon. From our point of view, the potential of health as a social property of individuals and communities has three sources and three components: the needs, abilities and willingness of individuals and communities for years with practical actions to maintain good health (physical and mental) and performance. The formation of developed systems of needs, abilities and willingness of individuals and communities to learn and use health practices is a real way to reduce social inequalities in health. Movement in this direction can lead to a significant increase in the number of Russian citizens who are able to independently solve problems to improve their health in situations that do not require emergency professional assistance. In order to revitalize the population and relevant social institutions in recreational activities, the author proposes to define the year 2021 (or another year) as the year of health.
