“…Lastly, we observe that the results of this investigation are consistent with studies in the US and other countries focused on social networking and peer groups (Emerson et al 2005;Ksobiech 2006;Von Lengerke et al 2004). “…Perceptions of governmental actions as effective promote life satisfaction and support protective behaviour (5). Similarly, positive appraisal of public health policies fosters a positive social climate (26). Contemporary models of large-scale behavioural interventions designed to prevent diseases prescribe a key role to fear and perceived risk in the perceived efficacy of these interventions (27).…”

“…The perceived efficacy of countermeasures should theoretically also relate to participants' epistemological state. Factual and rational information about diseases fosters consistent and healthy behaviours as well as intentions to endorse healthy habits (26,29). For example, dietary recommendations are usually supplemented with facts about the effects of different ranges of calories intake in order to promote adherence to a low calorie diet for overweight patients.…”

“…Multi-level theory provides a theoretical framework that is consistent with an emerging field of public health psychology (Hepworth, 2004;Von Lengerke, 2006;Von Lengerke et al, 2004). Both frameworks emphasize the role of power in shaping the context in which health decisions are made.…”
