Health-related quality of life in children with congenital heart disease following interventional closure versus minimally invasive closure

Abstract: IntroductionThe presence of atrial septal defect (ASD) or ventricular septal defect (VSD) significantly affects children’s quality of life and, if not treated adequately, can contribute to increased mortality. In this study, we evaluated and compared the health-related quality of life (HRQL) of children who underwent treatment using either minimally invasive closure (MIC) or interventional closure (IC).Materials and methodsIn this observational and comparative study 199 children (2 to 4.5 years of age) underwe… Show more

“…The use of a right thoracic minimal incision can avoid this limitation but is more suitable for children (7,8). In addition, a lower health-related quality of life in the early postoperative stage of a minimally invasive procedure indicates greater physiological and psychological traumas (22). The present study demonstrated similar results, with the percutaneous group showing a comparable success rate, shorter ventilation time, and shorter postoperative length of stay.…”

“…With high success rates and low procedural risk and mortality across all approaches to ASD closure, including transcatheter devices, conventional median sternotomy and minimal-access surgical approaches, the assessment of other patient-related outcome measures takes on increasing significance. Within the paediatric population, health-related quality of life (HRQL) has been compared for children undergoing interventional closure and minimally invasive surgical closure for both ASD and VSD repair [67]. The group concluded that HRQL continuously improved postprocedure, regardless of the type of intervention; however, catheter-based intervention was associated with better HRQL in the early post-procedure period.…”

“…Seiring dengan meningkatnya minat terhadap QoL (Moons et al, 2021). Berdasarkan Kualitas hidup anak atau orang dewasa lebih baik jika pengobatan dan perawatan terus menerus (Yuan et al, 2022). Dalam hal tersebut terdapat tekanan psikologis, fisik, dan sosial menentukan kualitas hidup di setiap individu.…”
