Background: In every women life this unique physiological phase that is menopause take place. In developing countries like in India most of women neglected their basic health care which poses the major public health challenges. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge, attitude towards menopause and its associated factors among postmenopausal women of urban slum; to explore the treatment seeking behaviour and the barriers for not seeking health care among these post-menopausal women.Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted using multistage cluster sampling and house to house visit in randomly selected slums under the UHTC area of KIMS, Bhubaneswar. A pretested and predesigned questionnaire was used among 220 postmenopausal women.Results: The results of the study show that 60.9% of women have a heard about menopause before attaining menopause but 33.1% women attitude towards menopause is negative. Only 10% of study population were aware of HRT that it treats menopausal symptoms. We found that the awareness of cancer cervix was 19.1% but the screening was done only by 2.7% of study population.Conclusions: There is considerably lack of knowledge and awareness about the effects and the treatment of menopausal symptoms especially in rural and slum women in India. So, such studies help in creating awareness since disseminating health education for postmenopausal women is of prime importance.

Introduction: The majority of Indian women tend to ignore and neglect their menopausal symptoms, which can diminish in intensity over time, leading to a reduced health-related quality of life. We aimed to assess the health-care-seeking behavior of postmenopausal women in light of the increasing burden of menopausal symptoms. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out within urban neighborhoods, involving 384 postmenopausal women aged 45–60, to investigate the health-related issues they faced. The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) was used to assess the symptoms experienced during the postmenopausal stage. In addition, a predesigned and pretested questionnaire was used to gather information on their health-care-seeking behavior. The participants underwent a comprehensive physical examination, including anthropometric measurements. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics were used. Results: The results showed that 34% of the 384 women were between the ages of 45 and 49 years. Based on the MRS assessment, it was found that around 70% of women experienced mild symptoms, whereas 24% had moderate symptoms, and a mere 2% reported severe symptoms. Regarding treatment, approximately 85% of women had sought medical intervention. However, satisfaction with the treatment was reported by only 71% of the participants. Among the women with modest symptoms, 70% received medical care, compared to 28% of the women with moderate symptoms. Women who were employed, widowed, three-generation family women, and Class IISES women made the most use of health-care facilities, with 90%, 89%, 88%, and 97%, respectively. Conclusion: The prevalence of faint symptoms was significantly higher than that of moderate and severe symptoms. Although most women sought treatment, many were unsatisfied with it. Therefore, behavior modification communication is necessary among postmenopausal women who seek medical care. In addition, the National Health Mission should incorporate components addressing the specific health requirements of postmenopausal women.

Introduction: During menopause, women experience various psychological or physical changes which need adequate attention. Moreover, women don’t seek help for these problems due to their hesitancy, lack of awareness, socio-cultural, financial constraints or as they feel this is a natural-phenomenon. The study aims to explore the postmenopausal experiences faced by women during menopause and to elicit the constraints faced by them in seeking health-care services. Methodology: This was a qualitative study with phenomenological approach conducted among post-menopausal women (≥45 years) from Oct 2022-Jan 2023 with the help of In-Depth-Interview guide in four villages of Bhatar Block, Purba-Bardhaman District. Considering the availability of the study participants, they were selected purposively from the list prepared by ASHA of each village and recruitment done till the point of data-saturation. Inductive thematic-analysis was used to identify codes and themes. Results: During menopause, women experienced physical and psychological changes in the body, changes in social life and for these changes they had to adjust to cope-up. They felt various needs like empathy from husbands, children, peers. On the other hand, they did not seek help from health-care services due to their knowledge gap, dissatisfaction from previous-visit, cost-issue and unavailability of resources in health-care delivery system. Conclusion: Majority of the post-menopausal women faced various problems associated with menopause, but very few had sought help. So, health care providers have an important role to generate awareness among post-menopausal women regarding physical and mental changes during this phase.
