Introduction: Students are the future of the nation they spend more time in school then home. They need to know about the importance of a balanced diet. Balanced nutrition is important for the students, basis for lifetime health, strength, and intellectual abilities in the students. Balanced nutrition in school students give information, and skills for healthy food selection which enhance the health and prevent diseases. Methods: Quasi-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of health education on knowledge and practice regarding the importance of well-balanced nutrition among school students with (n=70) in the school of Ali Raza Abad Raiwind Road Lahore, Pakistan. The educational interventional program involves four weeks of intervention about the importance of well-balanced nutrition. Results: The results of the study showed that there is significance effectiveness of health education on knowledge and practice regarding the importance of well-balanced nutrition among school students. A total of (n=70) students participated in this study, the mean score of the pre-data collection was 17.17 with the standard deviation of 3.526, and after the educational interventional program the mean score of post data collection was 27.07 with the standard deviation 2.845, and the difference between pre and post mean score was 9.900 which was a statistically significant difference pre and post data collection. Conclusions: The study findings revealed that health education on the importance of well-balanced nutrition was effective by improving the knowledge and practice of school students.

Background: A child spends more time at school than anywhere else, except home. The health and well-being of children is a fundamental issue in education. Indeed, active promotion of health is now seen as a priority for schools. Mortality in school age children is low but morbidity and physical defects constitute major problems. With this background the present study was conducted to explore the prevalence morbidity patterns and their socio-demographic co-relates among the primary school children in a Tribal area. The objectives of the study were to study morbidity profile and assess nutrition status of tribal primary school children; to determine factors influencing morbidity profile of tribal primary school children; to suggest recommendations based on study findings. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in Zila Parishad school located in village-Durves, tribal area of District-Palghar. Children enrolled in class 1 to 5were included using convenient sampling. A thorough clinical examination was carried out to assess the morbidities and nutrition status. Data was entered in Microsoft Excel Spread sheet and analyzed using SPSS. Results: Out of 126 students, 68 were girls and 58 were boys. The teeth hygiene was most compromised and dental caries was the commonest morbidity. Around 30% were malnourished as per WHO weight-for-age standards. Younger students i.e. those enrolled in class 1–3 had higher proportions of morbidities as compared to their elder counterparts. It was seen that male gender and children enrolled in class 1–3 had more morbidities. Conclusions: The study showed a poor attendance of merely 40% with 73% of study subjects having one or other kind of morbidities. Health education sessions on personal hygiene and nutrition must be carried out both for students and their parents to improve nutrition status and reduce proportion of morbidities.

Background: Despite India's 50% increase in GDP since 1991, more than one third of the world's malnourished children live in India. The prevalence of underweight children in India is among the highest in the world. In this endeavor, we have under-taken empirical research to evaluate the nutritional status of children aged 5-14 years and to improve nutritional status of children living in rural areas of Kanpur.Methods: This is a cross sectional study conducted amongst children aged 5-14 years in rural area of Kanpur. Children were examined clinically and height and weight were measured following standard procedures. MS Excel and Interactive statistics page were used for analysis of data.Results: Mean age of subjects (in years) was 10.09±2.57 and 9.43±2.42 of males and females respectively. Prevalence of underweight was 39.4%; underweight female (41.1%) and males (38.1%). Prevalence of stunting was 27.8%; girls 36.8% and males 20.3%. Thinness (BMI for age/sex <-2SD) was found in 26.6% of children. The prevalence of pallor was found in 27.5% subjects with Thinness. This association was found statistically significant (X2=6.250, p=0.001). Dental carries was found in 49 (13.61%) but in subjects with BMI < -2SD (thinness), 23 out of 92 had dental carries. This association was found statistically significant (X2=13.632, p=0.001).Conclusions: The problem of underweight is still high in rural areas. Total 27.8% children were stunted showing chronic malnutrition. This needs to be tackled through adequate nutrition and health education. Nearly 40 percent of the children were under-weight; an acute condition if not corrected at earlier stage may progress to severe form of malnutrition.
