This paper reviews the toolkit concept in health sciences libraries. A thorough search of existing Web sites and a literature review were conducted to obtain a working definition applicable to the health sciences library. In addition, the Web pages of 142 health sciences libraries in the U.S. and Canada were examined to determine if the toolkit concept is being used with regularity. A questionnaire was sent to three listservs to survey librarians about the use of toolkits at their institutions. Trends in naming, organizing, and presenting online resources in health sciences libraries are identified, and a statistical analysis of the use of toolkits is presented.
