“…Other researchers (Hickson, Lind, Worrall, Yiu, Barnett & Lovie-Kitchin, 1999) have defined normal hearing in older Australians as being a better ear 4FA of less than or equal to 25dBHL. Not surprisingly, given this more generous criterion for normal hearing, Hickson et al (1999) found that there was a mismatch amongst their participants aged between 60 and 93 years in both directions between self reported hearing loss and level of impairment as measured by pure tone audiometry. That is, approximately one third of participants with ''normal'' hearing , that is, better ear 4FA HTLs of less than or equal to 25dBHL, reported some difficulty with their hearing.…”
