“…232 Cardiac transplantation may be considered in extreme cases where repeated operative procedures have failed to eradicate persistent or recurrent PVE. 233 Operative mortality, morbidity, and post-operative complications Peri-operative mortality and morbidity vary according to the type of infective agent, the extent of destruction of cardiac structures, the degree of left ventricular dysfunction, and the patient's haemodynamic condition at the time of surgery. Currently, operative mortality in IE lies between 5 and 15%.…”

“…39 Cardiac transplantation may be considered in extreme cases with recurrent prosthetic valve endocarditis. 40 Tables 2 and 3 present information on indications for and timing of surgery, and the Figure presents surgical indications in native valve IE. However, it is important to remember that no randomized controlled trials are available to guide current practice.…”

“…The La Pitie Group in France reported that among all transplanted patients from 1968 to June 2005, 7% (105/1452) of orthotopic heart transplantations were performed for patients with valvular pathology 8 . In our study, end‐stage valvular heart disease represented 6% (75/1262) of all heart transplantations in adults.…”
