Heavy Metal (Pb, Hg) Contained in Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus Linnaeus, 1758) in Cengkok Coastal Waters, Banten Bay, Indonesia

Abstract: Increasing number of industries and settlements in Banten Bay were subsequently followed by an increase in the amount of waste, whether in the form of solid, liquid or gas that can pollute the environment. One of the toxic pollutants is heavy metal. The entry mechanism of the heavy metal Mercury (Hg) and Lead (Pb) in body of the crab (Portunus pelagicus), namely through the process of digestion food. This study was conducted for 6 months, from March to August 2019, and aimed to analyze the heavy metal content l… Show more

“…Those good parameters are salinity, pH, DO, BOD, and TAN (Table 2). This is in line with the previous studies conducted in the same area [24,25,26]. However, temperature and transparency parameters exceed the standard.…”

“…This may be due to the longer duration of heavy metal exposure in big fish. Exposure to heavy metals for a long time can increase the accumulation of these heavy metals in aquatic biota [34]. The heavy metals in the water will accumulate in the fish body, and biomagnification occurs [35].…”

“…For example, H. euthynni and many other monogeneans depend on water currents, light, and chemicals to find their hosts. With an area of 10 x 15 km and a shallow depth of <20 m (Febrianessa et al, 2020), Banten Bay will likely have fewer strong currents. However, more pollutants may be accumulated due to intense industrial activities (Wisha et al, 2015).…”

“…Several research activities in Banten waters have been conducted, i.e., to clarify environmental water conditions (heavy metals in sediments) (Wardani et al, 2020), heavy metals in crabs (Febrianessa et al, 2020), and heavy metals in mud crabs (Noviani et al, 2020). However, information about occuring helminth parasites in fish (especially mackerel tuna) has not been reported from these region before.…”
