Helicobacter pylori Antibiotic Resistance: Molecular Basis and Diagnostic Methods

Irina Medakina,
Larisa Tsapkova,
Vera Polyakova
et al.

Abstract: Helicobacter pylori is one of the most common cause of human infections. Infected patients develop chronic active gastritis in all cases, which can lead to peptic ulcer, atrophic gastritis, gastric cancer and gastric MALT-lymphoma. The prevalence of H. pylori infection in the population has regional characteristics and can reach 80%. Constantly increasing antibiotic resistance of H. pylori is a major cause of treatment failure and a major problem. According to the VI Maastricht Consensus, two main strategies f… Show more

“…Além disso, a resistência antibiótica está associada a uma maior probabilidade de efeitos adversos durante o tratamento. Estudos como o de Medakina et al, (2023) relatam que o uso prolongado de antibióticos pode causar efeitos colaterais gastrointestinais, como náuseas, diarreia e distúrbios da microbiota intestinal. Esses efeitos adversos podem impactar a adesão do paciente ao tratamento e influenciar na eficácia global do regime terapêutico.…”

“…The disc diffusion method offers a cut-off dependent on the diameter of the zone of inhibition. This method is widely used in epidemiological investigations, but its application in ordinary day-to-day practice has been difficult and time consuming due to tedious preparations, the length of time required, and the fact that it is not cost-effective [ 23 , 34 , 35 ]. Due to the difficulty of culturing H. pylori in broth without defibrinated blood, the broth dilution method is rarely employed [ 36 ].…”
