“…Numerous inaccurate descriptions, redescriptions and synonymisation of found species, accompanied by the lack of molecular data, resulted in C. ornata being the most commonly found species parasitising amphibians and reptiles in Europe, Asia and Africa (Baker 1981;Halajian et al 2013;Bursey et al 2011;Sou et al 2014). Therefore, the diversity of Cosmocerca in South Africa is still limited to one species (Skrjabin et al 1961;Baker 1981;Sou et al 2019).…”

“…The common river frog, A. delalndii is a widespread species across southern Africa ( Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009 ). The frog is commonly infected with nematodes and seven species were reported in several studies ( Baker, 1987 ; Halajian et al, 2013 ; Svitin et al, 2017 ). Despite the parasites of A. delalandii were studied from throughout South Africa including Limpopo Province ( Halajan et al, 2013 ), neither adult filarial nematodes nor microfilariae have been previously reported from this host.…”

“…Each nematode was removed with jewelers forceps. Nematodes were cleared in lactophenol, examined under a compound microscope, and identified to species utilizing Anderson et al (2009), Gibbons (2010) and by comparisons with the original descriptions. Nematoda were deposited in the Harold W. Manter Laboratory (HWML), University of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA (Appendix 2).…”
