“…Our results on the parasite community show that the diversity of parasites of the gray fox in the PANEC comprises primarily generalist species, of which, most of them have a direct life cycle not requiring intermediate hosts, with life cycles with several transmission strategies as paratenic hosts, autoinfection or transplacental transmission such as in U. stenocephala or Strongyloides s tercoralis life cycles ( Anderson, 2000 ). Our data differs from those in studies conducted in the United States regarding the parasite community of Urocyon cinereoargenteus , where many of the parasite species have complex life cycles, requiring at least two species of intermediate hosts ( Conti, 1984 , Dyer, 1984 , Anderson, 2000 , Ubelaker et al., 2015 ).…”

“…It is possible that a direct survey method, including an analysis of internal organs would have produced a more complete array of parasites but was beyond the objective of this study. All species identified in the present study have been previously recorded for gray foxes in North America (Buechner 1944;Simmons et al 1980;King and Bohning 1984;Dyer 1984;Conti 1984;Rogers 1984;Measures and Anderson 1985;Anderson 1992;Davidson et al 1992;Marquardt et al 2000;Bush et al 2001) andMexico (Pineda-López 1984;Lamothe et al 1997) and three of them (A. caninum, T. canis, and T. leonina) were previously registered in sacrificed stray dogs in Queretaro city (Fernández and Cantó 2002).…”

“…The variation of intestinal parasite fauna is probably related to the seasonal and geographic variability of certain foods, in some cases, of the paratenic hosts (Conti 1984;Pence et al 1988). These hosts include rodents (Peromyscus spp.)…”

“…This was the first patient to acquire infection by M. moniliformis in this country (14). It is known from published reports and field records that this worm occurs in Florida (3,12). Rats are the usual definitive hosts of M. moniliformis, and cockroaches serve as intermediate hosts.…”
