Helping Survivors of Human Trafficking: A Systematic Review of Exit and Postexit Interventions

Abstract: Evidence of effects of exit and postexit interventions is sparse, and much of the research is poorly designed and executed; however, the needs of trafficking survivors are complex and effective interventions are desperately needed. Implications for practice and research are discussed.

“…Fraley et al (2020) conclude that females are targeted via fraud, coercion, places in which children congregate as well as through friends who are the recruiters. Dell et al (2019), in their systematic review, postulate that human trafficking survivors' intervention and impactful financial assistance is direly missing. According to the United States inquiry, numerous policies have been enacted to deal with human trafficking internally and internationally.…”

“…There are a few works of literature on COVID-19 (del Rio & Malani, 2020;Li et al, 2020;Remuzzi & Remuzzi, 2020;van Staden, 2020). A number of scholarly writings exist on the current human trafficking perspectives of girls and women (Dell et al, 2019;Fraley et al, 2020;Latzman et al, 2019;Usman, 2014). These reviews point out COVID-19 and human trafficking as two critical global menaces.…”

“…For example, no one knows for certain the extent to which CSEC occurs, who are the perpetrators involved, and how many children are victims (Barnert et al., 2017; Moynihan et al., 2018). No one knows whether programs to address the needs of child victims of commercial sexual exploitation benefit or harm them (Dell et al., 2017; Gerassi, 2017; Goldberg & Moore, 2018). And there is scant evidence on whether established interventions to prevent and combat CSEC work to reduce victimization (Barnert et al., 2017; Coleman, 2016; Davy, 2016; Felner & DuBois, 2017; van der Laan, Smit, Busschers, Aarten, & van der Laan, 2011).…”
