Abstract:Background: Acute mediastinitis is the inflammation of the connective tissue and fat surrounding the mediastinal structures. It is a high-mortality entity and its most frequent causes include sternotomy infections from cardiovascular surgery, esophageal perforation and extension of head and neck infections.
