Abstract: Hemispherotomy is a surgical procedure that disconnects a large portion of the cerebral cortex from cortical and subcortical inputs in patients with severe refractory epilepsy. Whether the disconnected cortex - inaccessible to behavioral assessment - supports consciousness remains unknown.
