Hemoglobin level, a prognostic factor for nasal extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma patients from stage I to IV: A validated prognostic nomogram

Abstract: Although nasal extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (nasal ENKL) shares some prognostic factors with other lymphomas, seldom studies had explored the prognostic value of hemoglobin. The ENKL cases in stage I–IV during 2000 to 2015 were collected from two medical centers (group A, n = 192), and were randomly divided into the group B (n = 155) and C (n = 37). Although the significant factors identified by the univariate analysis differed between the group A and B, the multivariate Cox regression indicated t… Show more

“…Therefore, the Korean Prognostic Index (KPI) was proposed, and its prognostic power could be further improved by integrating some laboratory results (7)(8)(9)(10). After that, other predictors were explored, such as regional lymph node involvement, primary tumor invasion, hemoglobin level, and others (11)(12)(13).…”

“…1 With this regard, some researchers have found that the predictive value of these models may be further improved by other laboratory parameters (fasting blood glucose, C-reactive protein [CRP], platelet count, albumin, soluble interleukin 2 receptor, and absolute lymphocyte count). 2,[7][8][9][10][11][12] Growing evidence has shown that systemic nutritional status and inflammation status are critical in determining the clinical course and outcome of patients with cancer. C-reactive protein secreted by hepatocytes is usually induced by pro-inflammatory cytokines in an inflammatory microenvironment.…”

“…Wang et al [ 31 ] reported that patients with Hb < 120 g/L had significantly inferior PFS and OS, but they did not include patients with stage III/IV ENKTL. Cao et al [ 32 ] indicated that Hb level is a prognostic factor for patients with stage I-IV ENKTL, and the validated prognostic OS nomogram was useful to predict the outcomes of patients. However, opposite results were also reported.…”
